Christmas Break

Well being home is strange; where is the traffic noise, where are the noisy workers outside my bedroom window and also why is there no sirens??
It is a very serial feeling being away from the city away from the noise, the atmosphere and also away from the people. Being home in my little town is quiet but I am home.
looking around there are so many things around where I live that inspire me there is a wide range of different architecture which I love to include within my work. From the drive from my house to my mams there are 4 ranging bridges ranging from Victorian to modern and also a wide range of buildings from many different periods.
Looking across the queen Victoria bridge going over the river tees you can just sit and watch the birds as they are swooping down over the water they look so peaceful.
When the odd boat or rower goes past and disturbs the birds it just looks like there are clouds made from flying scared birds.

Photoshop......

well i forgot how much i loved to use Photoshop, creating my own designs with using my own drawings. using Photoshop makes me believe that my work can be made into something as you can manipulate your designs onto objects to see what it would look like.
this is one of my designs which i have made to look like it is the wallpaper in this bedroom.

These are just a few of my 18th century designs i have enjoyed producing these and feel that if i work hard i can produce a unique but very inspiring piece of work at the end of this project.

18th century...

im finally doing work i love. old historical drawings and PHOTOSHOP love producing drawings that i can the produce into something else like a Photoshop design which can be used in fashion or interiors.
1st drawing of the 18th century project
within this project i want to produce a range of different drawings which i can then manipulate them within Photoshop to create a wide range of varied prints.

My finals the end of the 1950's project..

whoop finally finished my designs :)
within this project i have enjoyed looking into the 1950's but i have felt quiet contained in the fact that i couldn't broaden the brief and go off into different sections i had to stick to a strong 1950's inspiration. i finished my project 4 days early did i do enough? is it good enough? what will they think if it isn't?

Creating the final print....

well doing the final group print wasnt as hard as we thought we all seemed to work well together to produce a beautiful final piece.
mixing our colours

deciding which one to use hummm....

practising our stencils

printing the many stencils

the exciting bit doing the actual screen print

revealing the print

its finished....

its finished...

its finished...
finishing this group task was so nice so that I could then concentrate on my own 5 designs. I personally don't like working in groups I like to physically have my own piece of work at the end of a project.

NEW men....

After producing the group design i felt that i could see about drawing some men in a different way to use on my prints. i have looked into drawing the silhouettes of them but i am also wanting to still take inspiration from Leeds by drawing the silhouettes of a men with a suitcase, a woman with an umbrella and an owl. they all flow quiet well together.
These are taking inspiration from artist Sylvia Chalmers.
My take on Sylvia's work but using the images i want to interpret into 50's inspired designs with inspiration also from Leeds
Henri Mattis
When doing these drawings/cut work i have took inspiration from two main artists two quiet different artists. one is Sylvia Chalmers who draws the silhouette of the figure and then Henri Mattis who is more abstract when he is drawing the human figure.

Deciding on a layout....

Working in a group is hard, trying to come up with a final print which looks food, flows well, and includes a piece of everyone's work. within our piece we have a wide range of work as we have all done quiet different things. I took us a while but we managed to come up with a few designs and then we got to our final which has got elements of everyone's work on it.
We produced out kodatrace onto the tracing paper which was difficult as we new what we wanted on it we just couldn't all decide on where it should all go.
The sheet we got to help with the kodatrace
Now we have all agreed and got it put on the screen i cannot wait to get it printed and to see what it looks like.

My men

one of the things  found myself drawing over and over again was "my little men" i drew these human figures in an abstract way and then decided to just go with it and see what i could get out of them at the end they work really well with certain designs. they also work well with colour behind then and also when using coloured materials to draw them rather that just using black fine liner.
my dancing men

more of the men but as well as using circles to draw then i tryed it with triangles to see what the effect would be.
when producing these drawings i took inspiration from Leonardo Da Vinci with his drawings of the human form as he was the first artist to produce accurate sketches of the human figure.

1950's

looking into the 1950's we have to design a print in a group of 5 for 2 fashion student to then make into a garment of there choice. when looking into the 1950's i got inspired by the moving shapes and bright colours.

Sample of 1950's design
i have took inspiration from this to then produce drawings that we as a group can decide on how to make the print and what to put on the print.

Induction into disperse dye

I LOVE PRINTING!!!! Disperse dye printing is such an enjoyable way to print with this you can create such a verity of things with it you can create pieces full of texture and layers and you can also produce things with flat layers and minimal colour and objects. Printing here is different to how i have done disperse before here we have sheets of disperse paper and then cut shapes and things out of it and then place it face down on the fabric. This is a much easier way of printing and makes you more able to produce more prints within a shorter space of time.
this is one of the samples i produced when printing

Week 2 at Leeds

During this week i went on 2 trips the first i went to the Hepworth which is in Wakefield which is a 10 minute train ride out of Leeds  This place really inspired me with Barbra's work i like her work because of her simplicity and simple lines and mark makings

On the second trip this week i went to salts mill which was an old textiles mill the large room upstairs was amazing with the old wooden, uneven floor boards and the bare brick walls. you looked down the vast room and could picture the workers there with there sewing machines. within this gallery space some of David Hockney's work was being exhibited which was really good as i love his work.

This is one of my favorite pieces of Davids work as he drew this lane in many times of the year and it shows how much it has changed.

During the first week at uni here in Leeds i visited the Henry Moore institute and the Leeds art gallery these places has so good exhibitions on. Within the Henry Moore institute it had one piece that was really exciting. They had fans all around the room and had 15+ big shiny silver balloons which looked like pillows. When having the fans on it made them all move round the room and made the exhibition an interactive place which i really liked. within the art gallery they had a large amount of statue figures and sculptures on displace one that i liked most was a sculpture that was made of tubes and looked like seat.

Leeds orienteering task

During the walk round Leeds i noticed a large amount of owls which i then found out were the city symbol for Leeds.

This is some drawings i have produced from the canal and then also one of the buildings within Leeds.
More drawings from the walk of a bridge over the canal and then the corn exchange which had given me a lot of inspiration with is historical features.

By the war memorial there is a box full of these crosses with hand written messages from loved ones of the soldiers that dies i found this really heart warming and felt that i was lucky that i haven't had to loose anyone to the war.

Doing this task around Leeds was helpful not only within getting inspired for the upcoming project it also helped to get me to no the area a bit better. i have now found some lovely places to go and do many more drawings at for future projects.
